The number of air ambulance service medical teams and airplanes that are available has grown dramatically in the past few years, as almost all the domestic air ambulance services have expanded. It is almost counter-intuitive. Air restrictions by the FAA have become more stringent, and the price of fuel has more than doubled in the past few years. Yet the demand for domestic air ambulance service continues to grow. The increase of the number of flights in the United States is almost staggering. This might be attributed to the fact that the largest population bubble in the US (the baby boomers) is just crossing the age where many need medical attention. Patients are being flown all over the country, for particular reasons. Jim Robins, a 58 year old with a lapband surgery procedure surgeons of six, lives in Raleigh Durham, NC. He was transported via air ambulance to receive specialized treatment at a ho! spital in Minnesota that could very well have saved his life. He was a liver patient, and he could receive surgery there to fix what would be a deadly ailment, and recover in less than 6 weeks. Most importantly, though, was that the surgery there had a 92% success rate (22% higher than the national average.) Jim did not take any of it for granted: “When I went looking for a United States air ambulance and found out that there was a local, domestic air ambulance out there that could transport me to the hospital I wanted to go to, I was ecstatic.” After all, it isn't exactly obvious that someone who is bedridden in a serious condition is able to fly. He effectually got the opportunity to choose his destiny-and a better chance at a healthy, normal life.
